THE MYSTERY OF MARS — FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
DR. MATILDA A. EVANS' CLASS
The Mystery of Mars
One of the most intriguing Planets in our solar system is the fourth planet from the Sun, Mars. This is because Mars and Earth have a mysterious relationship with one another. In fact they have some mind blowing similarities. It would not be incorrect to refer to them as twins in some respects.
Mars is the closest planet to our Earth in nature. Mars is very Earth-like. Here are a few examples:
-
The axis of Mars is 24.9 degrees in relation to the plane of its orbit around the Sun. The axis of Earth is 23.5 degrees in relation to the plane of its orbit around the Sun. That is only 1.4 degrees difference.
-
Mars makes a complete rotation around the Sun every 24 hours, 39 minutes and 36 seconds. Earth makes a complete rotation around the Sun every 23 hours, 56 minutes and 5 seconds. That means that Mars is only about 83 minutes behind us in rotation.
-
Mars has four seasons like Earth. There is evidence that in some ancient period, Mars was alive, just like Earth, with oceans and rivers, climate and atmosphere very similar to our Earth.
-
Soil samples collected from Meteorites from Mars that have landed on earth have proven to be capable of photosynthesis and chemosynthesis, which are requirements for life here on our planet.
Structures on Mars
However, there is evidence about Mars that is even more intriguing than these facts. In 1972, images were acquired that showed an area of Mars known as the Elysium Quadrangle. But it wasn't until 1974, after a careful review, conducted by Mack Gipson, Jr. and Victor K. Ablordeppy that drew a more wide range curiosity. This is because the images that have been studied from Mars show clearly that there are structures that are identical to structures here on Earth.
One such structure is very much similar to the notable Pyramids of Sumer, Egypt and Mexico here on Earth. This pyramid is located in a region on Mars that has been named, Cydonia. Another one is a gigantic Sphinx-like face that include "teeth" in the mouth, lines above the eyes liken unto eyebrows. It even has a headdress, which highly resembles the one the Ancient Egyptian Pharaohs are known to have worn. Modern technologies have confirmed that these monuments are the result of man-made technology.
What Happened to Mars?
After considerations of all of this information, it would be intelligent for us to ask, "If Mars is so much like Earth, then what happened that caused her to look so barren and scorched?" Well, most scientists agree that there is much evidence which shows that Mars, at some point in her history, displayed strong signs of a massive cataclysmic explosion of some kind. Below are some important references which you may want to consider which support these facts:
-
It is no mystery that the planet Mars has viewable damage done to it by what astrophysicists around the world and also NASA have determined to be a cataclysmic explosion.
-
On page 247 in the book by Graham Hancock, titled The Mars Mystery, he writes: "When we look at the ruined, cratered corpse of Mars, so grim and dead, so tragic with the emptying of her rivers and the drying of her oceans, is it not obvious that worlds can be killed?"
-
The scientist Dr. David Scott of the U.S. Geological Survey states: "It has been proven that lakes, deltas and seas once existed on Mars and by way of such conclusion, that her waters were lost due to a great explosion."
-
Dr. Vic Baker and other scientists at the University of Arizona suggest that a great ocean once covered the northern hemisphere of Mars and they support their theory with evidence of vast ancient shorelines in the low lying northern plains of Mars.
-
Dr. Colin Pillinger, a professor of planetary science at the United Kingdom's Open University states: "I passionately believe that conditions on Mars were once conducive to life."
-
Mars has an area of pyramids called the Cydonia Pyramids, which were photographed in 1976 by NASA from their Viking 1 Explorer. These are well known photos taken about 1,000 miles above the surface of Mars and mapped out by the Viking 1 Explorer.
-
NASA has officially concluded and stated publicly that the Mars pyramids are obviously well organized and structured and much too intelligent to be the result of some random natural processes.
The scientist Dr. Richard Hoagland identifies additional artificial features found on Mars. These include a Fort, like what we know as an army fort, as well as a vast city or metropolis which he describes as having arrangements of massive structures, all facing the complex where the Sphinx and the pyramids of Mars are constructed.
-
The scientist Dr. Christopher O'Kane states: "Looking at the whole of the Cydonia Pyramid and at the way all of these structures are cited, my gut feeling is that they have to have been made by men, because I don't see any way that such a complex system of alignments could have come about by chance."
-
It is a well-known fact and has been easily established by observation that one side of the planet Mars has an extremely large crater showing an implosion on one side and on the opposite side a very large bulge, implicating an explosion.
-
The bulges are named the Tharsis and Elysium bulge and the large crater where this massive implosion took place shows horrible scars and these scars are known as the Valles Marineris.
-
Graham Hancock also states that: "At the eastern edge of the Tharsis bulge, Mars seems to have been split open by some type of catastrophic force. A tremendous, meandering, furrow, which opens in the surface of the planet and runs east, roughly parallel to the equator."
-
The scientist Dr. Ronald Greeley states: "All that is certain is that at some point in its history, the planet Mars was afflicted by a cataclysm of almost unimaginable proportions."
"Mars tugs at the human imagination like no other planet."
